What makes a good name anagram
A name anagram rearranges every letter of a name into new words, using each letter exactly once. Spaces and capitals do not matter. The best ones feel like they were written on purpose: dormitory becomes dirty room, the eyes becomes they see, and debit card becomes bad credit.
Anagrams of names have a long history. Writers used them for pen names and hidden clues, and puzzle fans still trade them today. Some well-known pairs are Clint Eastwood and old west action, school master and the classroom, the Morse code and here come dots, and eleven plus two and twelve plus one, which is a rare one that is true in both letters and arithmetic.
The generator lists the shortest phrases first, since two-word anagrams usually read better than four-word ones. When a name has hundreds of results, the Must include box is the fastest way to find a good one: force in a word you like, such as army, dream or lord, and the tool rebuilds the rest around it.
A word of caution if you are naming a character or a business: always read your favorite result out loud. Some letter combinations produce phrases that are funnier, or ruder, than intended.
How it works

Common questions
What is a name anagram?
A name anagram is a new word or phrase made by rearranging every letter of a name exactly once. "Dormitory" becomes "dirty room" and "Elvis" becomes "lives". Spaces, capital letters and punctuation do not count, only the letters do.
How does the name anagram generator work?
It counts the letters in your name, then searches our word list for combinations of words that use exactly those letters, one word, then two, then three, and so on. Shorter phrases are listed first. It all runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Can it find famous anagrams like "I am Lord Voldemort"?
Only partly. Our word list contains standard dictionary words, and names such as Voldemort or Marvolo are not in it. For "Tom Marvolo Riddle" you will see phrases made of ordinary words, and you can use the Must include box to force a word like lord into every result.
What does the "Must include" option do?
It makes every result contain the word or words you type, and it finds the best way to spell the remaining letters. Try your first name with a word like army or dream to steer the results toward something meaningful.
Why does my name show no results?
Some names simply have no anagram made of ordinary words. Short names, names heavy with unusual letters, and names that need a one-letter word are the usual cases. Try allowing 4 words, lowering the shortest word to 1 or 2 letters, or adding a middle name.
Does it use the words A and I?
Yes, but only if you set the shortest word to 1 letter under Advanced options. With the default of 3 letters, one-letter words are left out because they tend to produce awkward phrases.
Is the phrase just my own words in a different order?
No. If the only match for "dirty room" was "room dirty", that would not be a new anagram, so the generator hides any result that is just your own words reordered.
Is there a limit on name length?
Names and phrases of 3 to 24 letters work. Longer phrases have so many possible combinations that results become overwhelming, so split a very long name and try the parts.
How is this different from the Anagram Solver?
