A crossword grid, not a letter pool
Fanatee released CodyCross in November 2016, and its puzzle format works differently from most of the mobile word games on this site. There's no rack of letters to draw from and no scrambled tile bank; instead you're looking at a real crossword grid with trivia clues shown above an on-screen keyboard, one clue per answer. Because it's a genuine crossword, answers cross each other, so solving one word drops shared letters into every word it intersects. That's why this tool asks for length and known letter positions instead of a letter pool: those are the two things the grid itself hands you before you've even read the clue.
The game is organized into worlds, and each world holds at least 20 groups of 5 puzzles apiece. Finish every horizontal answer in one puzzle and a secret word appears along the grid's darker vertical squares, built entirely from letters you already placed solving the puzzle around it. That secret word is really just another pattern-matching problem once you know its length, so the same approach here applies to it too.
This tool runs on the same core dictionary as every other solver on this site, just matched against fixed letter positions rather than a rack. Set the length from the blank squares on screen, type in any letters a crossing word has already revealed at their correct position, and leave the rest blank.
A practical tip: length alone can return a long list for shorter answers, so the tool is most useful once at least one or two crossing letters are in place. If you're stuck on the very first word in a puzzle with nothing revealed yet, lean on the trivia clue itself rather than the word list.
How it works
Count the blank squares for your clue and enter that number.
Type letters that crossing words have already revealed, in their correct positions.
Scan the words returned and pick the one that fits the trivia clue and category.
Common questions
This tool doesn't ask for my clue. How does it find the answer without one?
It works from what's already visible in the grid rather than the clue text itself: the exact number of blank squares (the answer length) and any letters that crossing words have already filled in at specific positions. That's usually enough to narrow a full dictionary down to a handful of candidates, which you then match against the clue and category yourself.
Why does CodyCross give me some letters for free?
CodyCross is a real crossword grid, not a word search or letter-tile game, so answers intersect. Once you solve one word, any letter it shares with a still-blank word falls into place automatically. This tool lets you enter those already-revealed letters at their correct positions rather than starting from nothing.
What if I have no letters revealed yet, only the length?
Leave every tile blank and just set the answer length. Results will include every dictionary word of that length, which is a wide net for a longer answer, so it helps most once at least one crossing letter is in.
What is the secret word at the bottom of each puzzle?
Every CodyCross puzzle group has 5 individual puzzles, and completing all the horizontal answers in one reveals a bonus secret word running down the darker vertical squares, built entirely from letters you already placed. This tool can help solve that the same way, once you know its length and any letters already showing.
Does this tool know CodyCross-specific trivia answers?
No, it only works from length and letter position, since it has no access to the game's actual clue text or answer database. Use it alongside the clue shown on screen to pick the right word out of the matches.
Can I use this for other crossword-style puzzles, not just CodyCross?
Yes. Any puzzle that shows you an answer length and some known letters at fixed positions, standard crosswords included, works the same way here.
